For the very first time Mallow last night won the 60 30 inter club Jun A Munster final by defeating Broadford.In what turned out to be a fantastic match both teams gave there all and the winner was only decided on the very last few aces played.The format for this competition is is 2 singles and one doubles matches with each playing 2 games to 21 aces with winning team decided on an aggregate scoreline.
First in for Mallow was Dale Cusack up against Anthony Donnelly.Anthony got a blistering start and completely dominated the first game from start to finish with an impressive array of passing and kill shots from around the alley winning 21-6.The second game was a reversal of the first with Dale dominating and wearing down Anthony to win 21-10.After the first encounter the Broadford lads had an advantage of 4 aces going into the doubles match up.Ken O’Neill and Tadgh Carroll took on Pat Doody and John Noonan in what turned out to be a very spirited performance with both sets showing impressive retreiving and killing shots.The Mallow lads took the first on a scoreline of 21-12 whoever the Broadford pairing took the second on the same scoreline of 21-12.This meant Broadford still had an advantage of 4 aces going into the final singles game in which Ryan Harkin took on Christy Enright.Ryan from very early on took the game to Christy and never gave Christy a chance to settle and won both games with impressive skill and concentration on a scoreline of 21-11,21-12.Mallow will now enter the all-Ireland semi final to be played in Co Meath on the weekend of the 12 of July.
